The National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) Pro-Choice PAC has endorsed Mike Michaud for Governor of Maine.
NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC released a statement from NARAL Pro-Choice America president Ilyse Hogue had this to say about the endorsement:
“We are proud to endorse Representative Michael Michaud in his campaign to become Maine’s next governor. We’ve gotten to know Rep. Michaud over the years and have been overwhelmed by his commitment to his role as a public servant. His evolution on the issues of reproductive freedom and abortion access comes as a result of taking the time to hear the real stories of women and families who have grappled with these personal decisions in his state. This willingness to listen and put the lives of his constituents ahead of partisan political posturing is exactly what makes Rep. Michaud the perfect choice to lead Maine. With the onslaught of attacks against women’s reproductive freedom in recent years, voters know that it is more important than ever to elect leaders who will protect women’s fundamental rights. NARAL will work to educate Maine voters about Michaud’s strong pro-choice values and why he is the best candidate for the job.”
Rep. Michaud has earned a 100% voting record from NARAL Pro-Choice America in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. NARAL Pro-Choice America has 12,000 member activists in Maine.
In response to NARAL endorsement, Rep. Michaud said:
“NARAL works tirelessly to advocate for important issues that impact the lives of so many women throughout America, which is why I am extremely proud to have earned their endorsement in my campaign for governor.
“Like many Americans, my views on abortion have evolved over the years. As a Franco-American Catholic, I personally have struggled, like many others, with this issue since I was first elected to office at the age of 24. But over the years my views have changed, thanks in large part to groups like NARAL and the countless women who have shared their personal stories and concerns with me while I’ve been in office. This endorsement today is a true testament to the positive change that can occur when you have advocates willing to share their stories and people who are willing to listen.”
