Affluent American families making more than $250,000 a year are convinced that President Obama’s proposed increase in their marginal tax rates means they will be paying significantly higher taxes under his plan.  But according to figures from the Center for Tax Justice quoted in a recent New York Times article, most families with incomes up to $300,000 will not be affected, and many families with incomes even higher will not pay higher marginal tax rates.
