Thirty-five enthusiasticTopsham Democrats braved the July heat to nominate DeniseTepler as the new Democratic nominee for House District 54. Tepler was selected July 8th at the Democratic caucus in Topsham to replace candidate Andrew Mason, who has withdrawn his candidacy due to the demands of his new job.

At the same meeting the caucus elected Gail Eaton to chair the Municipal Committee and Jane Scease was elected Vice Chair.

“I am running to ensure that Maine can be a place where our children can be successful and afford to raise their families,” said Tepler. “We must invest in quality education, small business growth and create economic opportunity for all Mainers. I will be a representative that Topsham residents can count on in Augusta.”

Tepler, a resident of Topsham for thirty years, has been an active member of the community, serving as chair and vice chair of the Topsham Municipal Finance Committee and a former member of the MSAD #75 School Board, representing Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell and Topsham. She has volunteered for nonprofit organizations, such as the United Way and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. Tepler and her husband raised three daughters in Topsham, all graduates of local public schools.

“Denise joins a stellar roster of local Democratic House and Senate candidates this year,” said Ben Grant, Chairman of the Maine Democratic Party. “Our Party represents the best of Maine values and our candidates are energized to move Maine forward this November. Denise is a great example of a leader who will listen and give a voice to Topsham residents in Augusta.”

“Knowing that Denise is willing to step-up, and make this serious commitment to run, has made it possible for me to withdraw from running for a second term with a clear conscience — she is an experienced community leader who has also led a nonprofit organization committed to improving opportunities for women. Denise knows Topsham, its people and its businesses, and is prepared to devote all of her time and talents to being an effective representative for them — I can think of no one better prepared to be the next representative for the people of Topsham. I am pleased to give Denise my full support,” said Representative Andrew Mason.

Denise Tepler is a Clean Elections candidate, and plans to run a positive campaign focused on listening and responding to the concerns of voters in the district.
