Up-Coming Local Advocacy Events:
Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 27, from 8:30 to 1:30 at the Legislature in Augusta. It will be the day before the legislative session ends. They’ve extended the session to overcome the budget crisis, but if the budget isn’t passed by Wednesday, 12,000 State workers will be locked out of work come July 1. Maine’s government continues to be close to a shutdown because Republican legislators—especially in the State House—are focused on partisan ideology instead of what is right for the many. They’re demanding huge tax cuts for the top 2%, repealing the education funding voters passed last year, further cuts to aid for people living in poverty and asylum seekers. These legislators are willing to lock 12,000 workers to extract their demands. Join Working Maine’s “Time For a Budget For The Many” rally at the State House on Tuesday, June 27 to demand the Legislature pass a budget for the many, not just for the few.

“Maine Resists” has a comprehensive Calendar of Resistance Events throughout Maine:
Health Care is the line this week. When 45 said the House plan was mean, some hoped the Senate one would be less so. This weekend he said the Senate plan was mean. But the Republican Leadership plans a vote on the plan this week! It is time to call Senator Collins’ offices and make it clear that mean plan is not the sort of health care Maine, or the whole nation needs. Make it clear you’re a Mainer, and make sure you are dead serious about this.
Call Senator Collins regarding the Senate’s development of health care legislation. Concerns: this needs to be moved out of “the back room”—there must be openness, the possibility of amendments, and there should be sufficient time for due consideration. It would be best if the Senate worked to develop a truly bipartisan bill—one that both Maine’s Senators could support!

There is another valuable resource we wish to let you know about: COUNTABLE (https://www.countable.us/ ) has an app which you can up-load for free and set up to monitor the votes of your US Senators and Representative. It can be set up to pay attention to particular issues, to all votes, etc. It can also be set up to send messages to them regarding bills and issues, as well as to send you emails about votes. This appears to be an invaluable tool!
